CONFERENCE OVERVIEW

The Seventeenth Annual WELV Conference will bring education leaders to Charlottesville for two days of dynamic presentations and in-depth dialogue. Combining formal speeches with panel discussions, small-group break-out sessions, and social and professional networking opportunities, this year’s conference will provide women leaders in Virginia with new insights into the role that they can play in transforming education.

 

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Tomlinson Hands245Carol Ann Tomlinson is the William Clay Parrish, Jr. Professor and Chair of Educational Leadership, Foundations, and Policy and co-director of the Institutes on Academic Diversity at the Curry School of Education, University of Virginia.

Dr. Tomlinson works throughout the United States and internationally with educators who want to create classrooms that are more responsive to a broad range of learners.

Her experience as an educator includes 21 years as a public school teacher working with preschoolers, middle school students, and high school students. At the secondary level, she taught English, language arts, German, and history. She also administered district-level programs for struggling and advanced learners.

Dr. Tomlinson was Virginia’s Teacher of the Year in 1974.

At the University of Virginia, Dr. Tomlinson teaches undergraduates, masters degree students, and doctoral students, predominantly in the areas of curriculum design and differentiated instruction.

She was named Outstanding Professor at Curry School of Education in 2004 and received an All-University Teaching Award in 2008.

In 2014’s EducationNext Edu-Scholar Public Presence rankings, Dr. Tomlinson was named one of the two most influential higher education voices in the United States in Psychology and the 16th most influential in all education-related fields.

Dr. Tomlinson has written more than 300 books, book chapters, articles, and other materials for educators, and her books have been translated into 12 languages.

PANEL DISCUSSIONS & BREAK-OUT SESSIONS

Participants will have the opportunity to attend panel discussions and break-out sessions on both days of the conference. These sessions will focus on issues of importance to women education leaders, including the work by WELV Local Affiliates in promoting women leaders.

FEES & REGISTRATION INFORMATION FOR EDUCATORS & GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS

You must be a member of WELV to participate in the WELV Seventeenth Annual Conference.

However, your registration fee for the conference includes a year’s membership in WELV . . . a savings to you of $40 (standard membership) or $25 (retired member or full-time graduate student).

Your membership in WELV will run from April 1, 2016 – March 31, 2017.

Thursday (March 17) ONLY $175 $200 after February 26
Friday (March 18) ONLY $125 $150 after February 26

You will receive a Re-Certification Certificate for your participation in the conference.

REGISTRATION FOR THE
17TH ANNUAL WELV CONFERENCE

Mistakes made in filling out the registration will be highlighted in bold.

Once you have filled out the registration completely, you will see an on-screen message thanking you for your submission, and the person or people whom you have designated to receive a confirmation email should see that email (with registration information included) within 24 hours.

Within a month of your registration, the person whom you designate as the Billing Contact on your form will receive an email with the invoice for your conference fees.

We ask that the Billing Contact pay the amount due promptly.

If a Purchase Order Number is provided on the Conference Registration Form for a participant, the invoice from WELV will reference that Purchase Order Number.

The Registration Fee is non-refundable. If you are unable to attend the conference, please send someone in your place and notify Liza Scallet, the WELV Administrative Assistant.

The Registration Fee covers both attendance at this year’s conference and membership in WELV through March 31, 2017.
