2018 CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS

The Eighteenth Annual WELV Conference will bring education leaders to Charlottesville for two days of dynamic presentations and in-depth dialogue. Combining formal speeches with panel discussions, small-group break-out sessions, and social and professional networking opportunities, this year’s conference will provide women leaders in Virginia with the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of issues of importance to them so that they can empower themselves and empower others by developing the mindsets for leading and learning.

 

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

 

Shelley Burgess has served as an award-winning teacher, principal, Director of Student Achievement, and Assistant Superintendent of Educational Leadership. Her highly respected work focuses on building leadership capacity through coaching, collaboration, and building a positive culture of change which leads to dramatic improvements in teaching and learning. She now works as a full-time partner in Dave Burgess Consulting, Inc. and is the co-author of P is for PIRATE: Inspirational ABC’s for Educators and Lead Like a Pirate

Learn dynamic strategies to dramatically transform culture and build schools where students and staff run to get in, not out.  This motivational session demonstrates how to take revolutionary ideas from Teach Like a PIRATE and supercharge them for leaders so you can become the leader you’ve always wanted to be.

 

OTHER FEATURED SPEAKERS

In addition to Shelley Burgess, conference participants will have the opportunity to attend speeches by other distinguished professionals, including Noelle Ellerson, who will provide an update on federal education policy, and Lee Ann Jung, PhD, Chief Academic Officer and Co-Founder of ASCD Student Growth Center, which roduces GoalWorks® progress monitoring software. ​She provides support internationally to schools in the areas of inclusion, standards-based grading, and intervention planning and progress monitoring.

 

PANEL DISCUSSIONS & BREAK-OUT SESSIONS

Participants will have the opportunity to attend panel discussions and break-out sessions on both days of the conference. These sessions will focus on issues of importance to women education leaders, including the work by WELV Local Affiliates in promoting women leaders.

FEES & REGISTRATION INFORMATION

FOR EDUCATORS & GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS

You must be a member of WELV to participate in the WELV Seventeenth Annual Conference.

However, your registration fee for the conference includes a year’s membership in WELV . . . a savings to you of $40 (standard membership) or $25 (retired member or full-time graduate student).

Your membership in WELV will run from April 1, 2018 – March 31, 2019.

Thursday (March 15) ONLY $175 $200 after February 10
Friday (March 16) ONLY $125 $150 after February 10

You will receive a Re-Certification Certificate for your participation in the conference.

Mistakes made in filling out the registration will be highlighted in bold.

Once you have filled out the registration completely, you will see an on-screen message thanking you for your submission, and the person or people whom you have designated to receive a confirmation email should see that email (with registration information included) within 24 hours.

Within a month of your registration, the person whom you designate as the Billing Contact on your form will receive an email with the invoice for your conference fees.

We ask that the Billing Contact pay the amount due promptly.

If a Purchase Order Number is provided on the Conference Registration Form for a participant, the invoice from WELV will reference that Purchase Order Number.

The Registration Fee is non-refundable. If you are unable to attend the conference, please send someone in your place and notify Judy Lam, the WELV Administrative Coordinator.

The Registration Fee covers both attendance at this year’s conference and membership in WELV through March 31, 2019.
